Research areas

The research and teaching at The Department of Information and Media Studies cover a wide range of areas. The unifying elements are communication and dissemination of information through different types of media - print and electronic and analog and digital. The department also covers organization, use and deployment of media and information in the society.

Information Studies works more specifically with issues related to use of IT in life and development of organizations, for example design of information systems and IT solutions for use in public and private enterprises, the use of IT in enterprises, integration of IT in learning processes, interactive media, design of computer games and digital aesthetics.

Media Studies focuses on use of media in the political and cultural public with key issues such as visual and audio communication in film and television and on the Internet, the media system in Danish and European perspectives, including the Internet, reception and use of media in work and leisure.

In addition, further fundamental research is done in areas such as IT system analysis, the history of technology, design theory, organizational analysis, communication and media theory, reception theory, media history, media system analysis and media analysis.

The Department’s scientific theoretical foundation includes dimensions of hermeneutics and sociological as technological and computer science. All dominated by a tendency to understand the evolution in a historical perspective.

Parts of the Department’s research are organized in research centers.
