Research and teaching within the field of “Communication and learning” is concerned with use of digital media and online communication forums in communication and learning processes.

The research field works with and develops theories of knowledge, learning and communication and models for technology supported learning, e-learning, online learning, blended learning, etc.

The field draws on a range of learning and communication theories as well as theories of pedagogy and didactics. Digital media and online communication forums are situated in an international and intercultural context. Further, the research field covers learning and communication in organisations, for instance in the form of knowledge sharing.

The research field works empirically with development of empirical design in studies of use and potentials of digital media and online communication forums; for example, mobile devices, weblogs, wikis, discussion forums, podcasting and social networks. The empirical research takes place within museums, libraries, and schools of primary, secondary and tertiary education.
