At the Center for Interaction Design (CID) we explore new digital technologies and how they are used. This is carried out with a humanistic, user-oriented and experimental approach that informs the design process. We see interaction design as a field of research that combines studies of the social, the physical and the digital in order to develop and understand new forms of interactions, new technologies and newer ways to foster engaging user experiences.
CID is currently hosting the national research center Digital Urban Living (www.digitalurbanliving.dk) at the Department of Information and Media Studies (IMV) of Aarhus University. The research projects involved are often large-scale and interdisciplinary. Presently, these projects frame most of the research activities within CID.
At CID we make an effort to engage our students in ongoing research activities, thereby minimizing the distance between textbook and research results. This results in a rich learning process for both our students as well as our educators.
The CID also works closely with the other research areas at IMV. This includes digital aesthetics, science-technology-society studies, communication and entrepreneurship.
