Research in media aesthetics includes studies of the interplay between expressive forms (auditory, visual, dramaturgical, narrative), genre studies and content analysis, all of which take media-specific qualities and perspectives as their point of departure.
This research focuses primarily on TV, film, the internet and magazines and on the genres: entertainment, sports, documentary, advertising and travel accounts. These studies investigate the relationship between media text and context (patterns of usage, the sender’s role and status, contemporary culture, national/global relations of production), the relationship between aesthetics and affect/effect as well as the interplay between various media.
