Science-Technology-Society Studies (STS) is an international and interdisciplinary field of research. STS activities at The Department of Information and Media Studies revolves around sociological, anthropological and philosophical theories of relations, networks and constellations spanning traditional distinctions between science, technology and society. That it is neither theoretical possible nor generally desirable to operate with predetermined conceptions of the relation between humans and technologies, and their respective characteristics, is pivotal for works within this field. The complex intermingling of technological artefacts and human beings must be analysed empirically in concrete situations.
STS-activities include among other things the introduction of electronic patient records and the use of surveillance and security technologies in the public sphere.
Research is organised in The Centre For Science-Technology-Society Studies: sts.imv.au.dk
