Employment survey 2004

Information Studies

Graduates from Information Studies find many different job functions within both private and public domains. Our employment survey from 2004 showed that only 7 percent of the participants were unemployed. Employment figures were as follows:

IT: 50 percent
Usability and web design, IT project management, system design and system development, implementation and IT support.

Firm/Organisation: 23 percent
Leadership, human resources, project management and consultancy.

Communication: 15 percent
Media, web and marketing.

Research and teaching: 12 percent
Teaching and PhD programmes.

Job placement depends on the choices made during your Studies. Information Studies covers a wide area, therefore an individual focus must be selected along the way. You create your personal profile whether you choose to focus on communication, design, organisations and their changes, or whether you choose a more technically oriented path.

Media Studies

The Media Studies programme qualifies students to plan and manage information and communication tasks in both private and public sectors. The tasks can be external or internal, and may involve journalism, communication and information presentation in different media, strategic guidance, and PR.

The Media Studies programme is an academic education that develops proficiency in media, communication, and cultural analyses, and is primarily theoretical.

During the course of study there is an emphasis on developing the students’ critical sense and ability to engage with professional problems in a systematic and independent manner. The relationship between the theoretical, analytical, and practical disciplines of the subject is a central educational theme.

Students are expected to be able to read foreign scholarly literature in the original language, particularly English.

Media Studies do not in themselves produce journalists, copywriters or film instructors, but, through production exercises, teach students to cooperate with people from more practically-oriented educational areas, as well as to take part in the production of film, radio, TV and written media products. Furthermore, the students will be qualified to teach within these areas.

However, it is important to emphasise that Media Studies covers a wide area, and gives the students broad qualifications that can be used in many different job functions. It is therefore advisable for the students to keep an open mind during their studies - not least because the field of media and communication is changing rapidly.
